Bradford Grammar School (BGS) has teamed up with Skipton Tennis Centre (STC) to run a youth tennis competition.
The Bradford Grammar School Tennis Challenge Cup competition saw more than 20 seven to eight and nine to ten-year olds at Skipton Tennis Centre (STC) pick up their rackets and take to the courts.
Adam Cox, Head Coach at STC, said he takes great pride instilling a love of tennis in hundreds of children at the centre and that competitions help youngsters to challenge themselves while having fun.
“Children who learn tennis gain so many benefits,” he said. “From young people’s competitions to holiday clubs and summer camps, there is much in place to attract and nurture youngsters.
“Skipton Tennis Centre and Bradford Grammar School have a lot of sporting values in common which makes them a perfect fit. Sport should be inclusive and accessible to all people and communities. One of the key elements is it needs to be fun. Tennis is a great way to have fun while energising the body and mind, and it allows young players to build confidence and make outstanding progress.”
Skipton Tennis Centre, awarded the LTA – Tennis For Britain Club of the Year title at last year’s Wimbledon finals, is open all year round and runs more than 30 group coaching sessions a week for all age groups and abilities, as well as an extensive school coaching programme.
Adam added: “Both STC and BGS have specialist sporting coaches, which include ex professionals and internationals, alongside national league and age group international athletes who have represented Team GB. This is fantastic for the children as they learn from the best and really start to hone their tennis skills while having lots of fun!”
Simon Hinchliffe, BGS Headmaster, said: “It’s an exciting time in the history of school sport with our new facilities, programmes and blend of experienced and recently appointed colleagues. We are so thrilled to be working alongside Skipton Tennis Centre, widening participation and engaging children in the local community. The next 12 months will bring numerous collaborative projects – watch this space!”
