A TEENAGER who plays football for Bradford City was celebrating scoring straight 9s in her GCSEs today.

Elsa Foster, 16, a student at Bradford Grammar School (BGS), was overjoyed with her 11 GCSEs at grade 9 – to add to the grade 9 in French which she secured when she was just 14.

She said: “I’m still in shock at seeing my results. You never know what you’re going to get until you turn up, I’m really pleased with them.”

Elsa, of Burley in Wharfedale, has been playing football since she was five and plays midfield for Bradford City AFC Women’s Under 23 team. She loves sport and was part of BGS’s gold medal-winning team when she represented English schools in the ISF World Schools Cross Country Championships, in Slovakia, earlier this year.

The teenager enjoyed watching the England Women’s Football team win the World Cup and hasn’t ruled out the possibility of following in their boots one day while juggling her ambitions to be a vet.

“It was amazing to watch the games,” she said. “It’s a shame the sport has never received the coverage earlier, particularly as they’ve proved they can bring it home!”

Dr Simon Hinchliffe, headmaster at BGS, said: “We’re all very proud of Elsa. She’s not only achieved athletic success, but she’s also excelled in her academic studies.”
