Following their triumph in the regional heats in March, a team of Bradford Grammar School students have clinched the top spot of the Independent Schools Mock Trial Competition.
The team, composed of Year 11 and 12 pupils, travelled to the capital on 29 June to compete in the national final at The Old Bailey against other regional heat winners from Badminton School, Norwich School, Pipers Corner School, Southbank International School and Solihull School.
The competition, led by Young Citizens, provides students with hands-on experience in the courtroom, giving an insight into how the legal justice system works.
Year 12 pupil, Penny B, who is studying A Levels in Politics, English Literature and History, reflected on her experience. “Participating in the mock trial competition has been an incredible journey and it taught us so much about teamwork, legal procedures, and public speaking. Making it to the national finals and competing at The Old Bailey was an unforgettable experience, and winning the competition was the perfect reward for all our hard work.”
James Reeson, Head of Classics and leader of the mock trial co-curricular club at BGS couldn’t be prouder. “Each individual put in tremendous effort, and as a team, they collaborated seamlessly – their hard work paid off, and I couldn’t be prouder of them.” He added, “On the day of the competition, they faced challenging witnesses but remained professional and courteous throughout. The judges were particularly impressed by their skill and team spirit. It is incredibly rewarding to see them excel on such a prestigious platform. What a great way to end the school year!”
