Old Bradfordians, friends and former staff of BGS are being encouraged to get involved in a special event to mark the 360th anniversary of the School receiving its Royal Charter from Charles II.

The BGS community will come together to celebrate all things Bradford Grammar School with its first ever Giving Day on May 12 and 13. The event will aim to raise thousands of pounds for the 1662 Assisted Places Fund, which will go towards a child starting at the School in September.

The 1662 fund was launched with the mission of doubling the number of assisted places only a year ago. Since then, more than £1.6m has been raised.

In true Hoc Age spirit, the Giving Day has already been given a boost by an anonymous Old Bradfordian who has pledged to match all donations up to a total of £25,000.

The entire School is taking part, and news and activities will be shared across the globe via social media and email. A non-uniform day on May 13 will also help raise funds.

Lindsey Davis, Director of Development and External Relations, said: “The anniversary of the charter is a great time for the BGS family to come together and raise funds to help talented children, irrespective of their backgrounds, experience BGS for themselves.

“We’re looking to involve the entire BGS family in this event and we’ll be sharing aspects of school life with photos and videos which will hopefully inspire people to make their mark and donate.”
