Four Bradford Grammar School (BGS) pupils have proudly secured third place in the national final of the prestigious Royal Society of Chemistry’s Top of the Bench competition.

After emerging victorious as regional champions earlier in the year, Poppy H-C, Fausto K, Liberty P, and Rowan R showcased exceptional talent and expertise, placing among the top three schools nationwide.

The Top of the Bench competition, hosted by the Royal Society of Chemistry, is renowned for its challenging experiments and scientific tasks. This year’s national final, held in Edinburgh, witnessed intense competition from schools across the country, with BGS emerging as one of the standout contenders.

Bradford Grammar School’s Head of Chemistry, Dr Robert Moody, expressed his immense pride in the team’s remarkable achievement, stating: “I’m so incredibly proud of our pupils for their outstanding performance in the Top of the Bench competition. Their dedication, hard work, and passion for chemistry have truly shone through, leading them to secure third place in the national final.”

The Top of the Bench competition aims to inspire and celebrate the next generation of chemists, providing a platform for 14 to 16-year-olds to showcase their skills and knowledge in the field of chemistry. Participants engage in a series of challenging tasks, including practical experiments and theoretical questions, designed to test their understanding and problem-solving abilities.

BGS’s outstanding performance in the national final of the Top of the Bench competition reaffirms its continued commitment to developing both practical and problem-solving skills throughout the chemistry curriculum. The school continues to nurture and empower young minds, fostering a passion for chemistry and inspiring future generations of scientists.
