Bradford Grammar School (BGS) students were celebrating securing places at their first-choice universities today (Tuesday, Aug 10) after receiving outstanding A Level results.

More than a third of students at the independent school were awarded A* grades, while 69 per cent achieved A*/A grades. The school secured a 100 per cent pass rate with 97 per cent of students achieving A*-C grades, securing them places at the country’s top universities, including nine at Oxford and Cambridge, and with more than 20 destined to study medicine following a disrupted academic year.

Headmaster of BGS, Dr Simon Hinchliffe, said: “We’re incredibly proud of all our students who have shown resilience and great spirit in the face of an unusual and difficult year for young people everywhere. Current competition for places at university has been strong, with many students from 2020 deferring their places and an expected record year for results. We’re delighted so many from BGS have secured places at their first-choice universities, the great majority of them Russell Group. We wish them every success in the future.”

BGS counts Olympic medallists, prominent artists and politicians among its prestigious alumni. Former pupils of the independent school on Keighley Road, Bradford, include Olympians Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee, artist David Hockney, entrepreneur Sir Ken Morrison and politician Denis Healey.

“We’re incredibly proud of all our students who have shown resilience and great spirit in the face of an unusual and difficult year for young people everywhere.”
