A teenager has thanked teachers at BGS after gaining several top grades in his GCSE results.
Alex Fisher, of Bradford, was delighted to secure 10 GCSEs, of which five were 8/9s. He said his teachers had been a great support to him since his diagnosis for dyslexia, which was confirmed when he joined the school in Year 5.
The 16-year-old was helped by being allowed to use a laptop to take notes in lessons and being given additional handouts to help with his work.
“My dad thought I had dyslexia when I was quite young,” he recalled. “I did an assessment at my previous school and then I came here where it was confirmed. For me, I’m fine with reading but the spelling was always a challenge and it limited how fast I could write.
“Online learning during the pandemic was actually easier because I could stop lessons and double check things. I could also write a lot faster because it was typewritten.
“All the teachers have been really supportive at BGS. Having that support here gave me the confidence to do well in my exams and to do well in my life. The environment is nice and it’s been easy to make friends while still learning at the same time.”
Alex is on the school rowing team and is looking to study Physics, Maths, Economics and Geography A Levels in anticipation of taking up a degree apprenticeship in Engineering when he eventually leaves BGS.
