Make a Gift – Legacy Giving

to Bradford Grammar School

Legacy Giving

Remembering BGS in your will is one of the most personal and significant ways you can help to safeguard the future of talented young people in and around Bradford, and that of BGS itself.

Making a legacy gift to BGS enables you to make a lasting difference. It also helps us to pass on the transformative gift of a BGS education.

By supporting Assisted Places in your will, you will change the lives of future BGS pupils. To learn more about legacy donations to the 1662 Fund for Assisted Places, click here. Of course, we understand that donors may prefer to direct their legacy to other areas of the school and welcome all enquiries regarding making a legacy gift.

There are many ways to pledge a legacy gift to BGS. Details about the different options are available here.

To recognise the generosity of legators during their lifetime, we have established The Keeling Society, named for the visionary WH Keeling, BGS Headmaster from 1871 to 1916. Members of this Society receive regular donor communications and invitations to special events. In addition, legacy benefactors will have their name recorded in a book of remembrance, which acknowledges those whose bequests have been realised. Membership of the Keeling Society is however, entirely optional – we understand you may wish to keep your intentions private.

For further information about making a legacy donation, please email [email protected] or call 01274 553712.

There are several ways you might choose to remember BGS in your Will:

  • Residuary: once family and friends have been provided for, the remainder of a percentage of your estate is donated.
  • Pecuniary: a fixed sum of money.
  • Specific: a specific or in-kind bequest (for instance, property, stocks and shares, works of art or antiques).
  • Reversionary: a legacy gift which allows named individuals to benefit from your estate during their lifetime, after which the designated assets will be given to BGS.

However you decide to remember BGS, we endeavour to follow your wishes and intentions wherever possible.

We recommend that you seek advice from your solicitor to ensure that your Will is valid.

Tax Benefits

As BGS has charitable status (Registered Charity: 529113), making a legacy gift to us could reduce your Inheritance Tax rate and enable you to safeguard your loved ones’ interests. If 10 per cent of your net estate is donated to charity, the overall tax liability of your estate could be reduced from 40 per cent to 36 per cent.
