Archie AppletonSeven 9s and four 8s
Sporty Archie, who joined BGS in Year 5 was over the moon with his results. “I was a little tense this morning but now feel amazing. I’m so glad all my hard work paid off.” Archie is looking forward to celebrating with his friends over the weekend, in particular going to Leeds Festival to see his favourite artist, Sam Fender. With a dream of studying Medicine, he will be joining the BGS Sixth Form to study A Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths.
Dev BasraEight 9s, two 7s and one 6
Twin Dev was delighted to find that eight of his 11 grades were 9s. He said: “I’m really happy with them because I’d worked hard. I was nervous beforehand, especially seeing all the news where they were saying that there weren’t going to be as many top grades, it was quite intense!” Dev will now study for A Levels in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Economics with his eye on pursuing a career in aerospace engineering.
Maya BasraFour 9s, four 8s, one 7 and one 6
Dev’s twin sister, Maya, joked there was rivalry between her brother and her when it came to their GCSEs. “There’s been so much rivalry,” she laughed. “But I worked hard, and I got what I wanted so you can’t ask for much more.” Maya will join the BGS Sixth Form to study for A Levels in Biology, Chemistry and Psychology. “They have a lot of things to offer at BGS,” she added. “They’re always ready to help you and it’s nice having that support.”
Penny BrosnanSix 9s and four 8s
First team hockey vice-captain Penny has taken a step closer to her dream of becoming a journalist. “I was really nervous but knew I had given it my all” she said. “I did better than I thought – I was a little surprised to get a 9 in Biology!” She will now study A Levels in English Literature, History and Politics, plus an EPQ and hopes to go to the University of St Andrews to study English Literature which has been her dream since she was 10 years old.
Megan EldridgeNine 9s and one 8
Hoping to follow her mum’s footsteps and become a doctor, Megan was relieved to open her results to see she had secured nine 9s and one 8. “I was a little nervous but knew I had done all I could” she recalls. Megan, who was this year’s Interact Club President, looks forward to celebrating with friends later and will study A Levels in Biology, Chemistry and Geography, plus an EPQ at BGS.
Elizabeth GibbinsOne 9, three 8s, three 7s, two 6s and one 5
Keen hockey and tennis player Lizzie was really nervous leading up to opening her results. “I knew I had worked hard but it matters a lot to me – I really wanted to do well” she recalls. Lizzie was overjoyed with her results and when asked how she felt now that she’d opened her results, she said she was ‘relieved and delighted to have two more years at BGS!’ She will now study A Levels in English Literature, History, Politics and Art.
Thomas HuntSeven 9s and four 8s
Keen musician and rower Thomas was happy with his 11 GCSE results of seven 9s and four 8s. With a dream to work in Engineering, he will now stay on at BGS to study A Levels in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and DT. Recalling his time at BGS so far as fun, he is now ready to take the next step up with his A Levels and after BGS hopes to either go to university or study for an apprenticeship.
Emma MakinFour 9s, four 8s and two 7s
Emma learned she’d scored full marks in her Art and Design GCSE when she arrived at school to collect her results, and art teacher, Sarah Horsfield, let her know. In addition to a 9 in Art, she also found she’d gained three 9s, four 8s and two 7s in the rest of her GCSEs – despite missing school due to her appendix being removed just before Christmas. Emma will now pursue A Levels in Art, Physics and Maths with another one to be confirmed.
Arul MidgleyOne 9, six 8s, two 7s and one 6
First team rugby player Arul was really happy with his 10 GCSE results. Arul, who’s dad Richard is an OB (1989) said: “Juggling rugby with my academic studies has been difficult but the hard work has paid off and I’m proud of myself. The teachers support you with whatever you want to do here.” Arul is now looking forward to starting his A Levels in English Language, Maths, Spanish and Economics.
Seb MurphyOne 9, five 8s and three 7s
Seb has faced ongoing health challenges since he was first diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia at just three years old, but with the support of his family and friends, he was determined to keep up with his studies. Today, his hard work paid off when he received one 9, five 8s and three 7s. Seb is now looking forward to starting his A Levels in Psychology, Business, History and English Literature at BGS in September.
William PalmerFour 9s, three 8s, two 7s and one 6
Will, who has ambitions to play county hockey has enjoyed debating and sports at school, which he’s balanced with his academic studies. As a type 1 diabetic, his condition meant he was in a room on his own during his exams which allowed him to pause and eat some sugar if needed. Today, his hard work paid off with 10 GCSEs and he is now looking to study Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths A Levels at BGS.
Alfie SandersonTwo 9s, seven 8s and one 7
Super keen musician and hockey player Alfie was delighted and super proud of his ten GCSE results of two 9s, seven 8s and one 7. He is excited to stay on at BGS Sixth Form to study A Levels in French, Geography, English Literature and Music, and dreams one day to work in London, like his older brother, but first, he plans to celebrate with his friends and family at Leeds Festival.
Shishir ShastryTen 9s and one 8
With fantastic results of ten 9s and one 8, it was no surprise that Shishir and his family were delighted. “My grandparents live in India and my dad has already sent my results to them!” he recalls. Shishir has taken part in many co-curricular activities including hockey, tennis, table tennis and playing in the brass and concert bands. He will stay on at Sixth Form and study A Levels in Maths, Further Maths, Computer Science and Physics.
James WoodhamEight 9s and four 8s
Ambitious James, who joined BGS in Year 7, was happy with his results and ‘got what he had hoped for’. An avid musician and orienteer, he plans to celebrate with his family later and describes BGS as ‘nurturing, happy and fun’. With a dream to work in civil engineering, James will stay on at Sixth Form and study A Levels in Geography, Physics, Maths and German.
