Welcome to Bradford Grammar School Reception – Clock House: a leading co-educational independent day school in Yorkshire.

High-quality early years education lays the foundation for lifelong learning, well-being, and success. Our Early Years provision supports the rapid growth and brain development that takes place before the age of five. In our purpose-built Reception building, children enjoy a play-based curriculum in a bright, spacious environment with access to free-flow areas, outdoor classrooms, and woodland spaces. Specialist teaching in music, PE, and languages enriches their day, nurturing creativity, confidence, and a love of learning – laying strong foundations for Year 1 and beyond. Welcome from Laura Tapscott, Early Years Foundation Stage Lead

The right foundations are crucial for our children, and at Clock House, the school journey begins at the age of 4. Reception, in particular, is that beautiful environment that carefully balances both teacher and pupil-initiated learning. Our child centred approach incorporates daily opportunities for practical hands-on learning and collaborative play carefully supported with boundaries and structure. We provide the ‘scaffolding’ role by leading, while allowing children to explore their own interests.

Developing a partnership with parents is crucial in the holistic development of our pupils at Clock House. We encourage parents to share their children’s personal achievements from home as well as showcasing their likes and dislikes. It allows parents a window into our classroom to see how their children are growing and developing as well as identifying some areas where additional support may be needed.

Our new purpose-built Reception and Year 1 building is a beautiful, nurturing space where our young children can enjoy becoming part of the BGS family and making many friends. Outdoors, we have a world filled with nature, just waiting for our young pupils to go off, explore and embrace those hands-on learning opportunities.

Welcome to our Clock House Early Years building, an exciting expansion of the Junior School which welcomes children from Reception to Year 1.

Our fantastic Early Years building, completed in Summer 2024, transformed our natural outdoor spaces for all pupils and includes a mud kitchen, construction area, woodland exploration area, treehouse, and outdoor performance space.

We believe that the foundation of a lifelong love for learning begins in the Early Years. Our dedicated Early Years building is a vibrant, nurturing space designed specifically for Reception and Year 1 children. Here, your child will take their first steps into formal education in a supportive and engaging environment tailored to their unique developmental needs.
