A craven student is looking forward to combining her love of art and history after securing her place at a prestigious institute.

Rosie W, 18, a student at Bradford Grammar School (BGS), will be heading to the Courtauld Institute of Art to study History of Art after receiving an A* in her Art A Level, a B in History and A in Politics.

The institute is a research-led, independent college of the University of London, with one of the world’s leading programmes of art history, curating and conservation.

Said Rosie: “I’m really excited about going. There are only about 70-80 places available so it’s a very competitive application process. There are a number of careers I can go into from there and I’m looking forward to getting a good feel of what I can do.”

Rosie, of Skipton, has recently completed internships at the impressive Chatsworth House, in Derbyshire, and at Hartleys Auctions, in Ilkley.

The teenager, who joined BGS in Year 10, said she’d loved her time at the school, which counts international artist David Hockney among its alumni. Eight out of nine of the Art A Level students this year received an A*.

“They’ve provided me with everything I’ve needed to succeed, from the teaching to the facilities. I love art and history and all of my subjects have worked really well together.”

Sarah Horsfield, the school’s Head of Art, said: “Rosie’s focus and work ethic have been unbelievable. She’s brought in her own ideas and we’ve loved supporting her as she’s developed them. She has the skills and ability to go to university at a really good level and excel in the world of art.”
