More than half of A Level students at Bradford Grammar School (BGS) were celebrating after achieving solely A*/A grades.

Of the 125 A Level students who were given their results, 63 per cent achieved A*/A grades, while 89 per cent were awarded A*-B grades and 99 per cent secured A* to C grades. Overall, the school celebrated a 100 per cent pass rate.

Headmaster of BGS, Dr Simon Hinchliffe, said: “We’re delighted that students have been able to come in and collect their results today and share their success with close family and staff, socially distanced outside on the wide open space of the Governor’s Lawn.

“This has been a disrupted and difficult year for all Year 13s and we’re extremely proud of our Class of 2020 at BGS. They’ve displayed such resilience and magnanimity in the face of challenging circumstances. Our results are strong, in line with historical performance, and once again reflect the commitment of everyone at Bradford Grammar School to learning and intellectual growth. But a BGS education is not just about academic results. Fortitude and personal development are important too. Our students have shown they have these qualities and they’re aspects of their characters which will be with them for life. We wish them, and Year 13s up and down the country, every success.”

BGS counts Olympic medallists, prominent artists and politicians among its prestigious alumni.

Former pupils of the independent school on Keighley Road, Bradford, include Olympic heroes Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee, artist David Hockney and politician Denis Healey.
