An acclaimed children’s writer led a literary workshop for BGS junior pupils to celebrate World Book Day.

Award-winning author, Hilary Robinson, has penned forty books for children and is best known for Mixed Up Fairy Tales and Where The Poppies Now Grow.

The children’s author was impressed with the enthusiasm of the pupils who had dressed up in literary attire to celebrate World Book Day. Said Hilary: “The pupils all looked amazing in their costumes and were so inquisitive – a real pleasure to meet. The workshop style of the day also gave a dynamic approach to literature and reading/writing. Not everybody likes to read, so it’s great to have different avenues to reach them; it really breathes fresh life into literature, ideas and words.”

BGS also asked all its pupils and staff to post their #booksthatmadeanimpact pictures on the School Library Twitter account.

BGS library manager, Lesley Purcell, said: “We’ve collected many #booksthatmadeanimpact pictures and reviews – the library was a hub of creativity today, with students and staff displaying little cards that say why they love their favourite books.

“Students respond very well to staff recommended reads, so this is a great way to encourage students to read something with real impact.”

Simon Hinchliffe, BGS’s headmaster said: “World Book Day is always an enjoyable occasion at Bradford Grammar School. Every year both pupils and staff dress up as literary characters and this year we have been having some fun with #booksthatmadeanimpact.”

The BGS Library will display all pictures on World Book Day. See more at @bgs_library #booksthatmadeanimpact #WorldBookDay2019
