Two Year 11 students won prizes in the Queen’s College Cambridge essay writing competition.

Will Crookes and Eesa Imran were in Year 10 when they entered the competition during lockdown and were delighted to hear they’d won their respective categories.

Will, who has a keen interest in linguistics, wrote an essay on the relative purity and originality of the Icelandic language. Eesa wrote his essay on why video games are so addictive.

Will said: “The Icelandic language is very interesting, and I wanted to find out more about it so I thought I may as well write about it. I was very happy when I heard I’d won and to receive a Waterstones voucher was an added bonus.”
