One of Yorkshire County Cricket Club’s youngest team members was celebrating today after scoring highly in his A Levels.

Will Luxton, 18, a student at Bradford Grammar School (BGS), was delighted after securing an A grade in business, B in history and B in physical education.

Will, of Eldwick, near Bingley, began playing cricket with his dad when he was five and has risen through the age groups playing for Yorkshire. He then signed for the Yorkshire County Cricket Club Academy and the batsman made a fantastic first team Yorkshire CCC debut at Scarborough last month, scoring 68.

“It was amazing,” he recalled. “There were about 5,000 people there, so it was great to receive a standing ovation on my debut. I’ve been told it’s a really good start and to keep going, I can only get better.

“I’ve been playing cricket since I could pick up a bat and I’ve enjoyed playing sport at BGS.

The facilities have been great and Simon Kellett (BGS specialist sports coach cricket) is a really good coach.”

The teenager will now focus on his cricketing career and hopes one day to play for England.

Dr Simon Hinchliffe, headmaster at BGS, said: “Congratulations to Will who has balanced his academic studies really well with his growing Yorkshire cricketing career – no easy feat. We all watched him make 68 for Yorkshire on his debut at Scarborough. We wish him every success as he pursues his goal of playing for County and England.”
