On Election Day 2017 the whole of Years 7 and 8 gathered in the Hockney Theatre to hear speeches from pupils representing the major political parties in the national election.
Alasdair spoke first and very compellingly on behalf of the Labour party, “for the many, not the few”. Courtney, as the Green candidate, then spoke with passion for a “truly humanitarian party”. Nick summoned voters to back the Liberal Democrats in the name of “liberty, freedom and democracy”, before Harry gave an authoritative review of all that the current government has done in office and called for “A country that works for everyone”. Finally Freddie spoke up for patriotism under the UKIP banner.
Votes were cast at afternoon registration – the results are as follows:
Con- 40%
Lib Dem- 20%
Green- 17%
Lab- 13%
UKIP- 10%
Spoilt- 0%
