Year 6 pupil Rushda R has had her poem ‘Absence in the Nightfall’ published in a national poetry anthology.

Eleven-year-old Rushda, who draws inspiration from her love of reading horror and mystery genres, features in ‘Once Upon a Dream’, which is on the shelves of the school library.

Rushda is currently reading the ‘Murder Most Unladylike’ series of books by Robin Stevens, which has further fuelled her creative imagination.

She said: “I’ve been reading a lot of books about murders and horror, which I find really fascinating and inspiring.”

Despite her young age, Rushda has clear aspirations of becoming an author, finding it natural to explore more complex themes in her writing. She added: “I’ve written quite a lot of poetry, and English is my favourite subject. I find it easier to write in this genre because I love using my imagination.”

Richard Ribeiro, Bradford Grammar Junior School Headmaster, said: “Being published in the Young Writer’s poetry book is a testament to Rushda’s creativity and writing abilities. We are proud of her accomplishment and excited to see what she will achieve in the future.”
